Internet download speed
I am paying for Cox High Speed Preferred internet which states it has up to 18mbps download speed. However, I have been testing my download speed weekly for the past three months and never get above 2.9. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? I use 2wire.com for my tests.

Looks like a problem with their test. I ran it and also got 2.5Mbps. Probably a bottleneck somewhere on their servers. Try here. Or better yet, try the Speed test under Internet Tools under My Connection at ww2.cox.com.

I trust their site as it was recommended by Best Buy and IT guys at work. They told me a lot of the other sites only test internet searching/browsing. This site as I was told tests for actual download speeds.

Well your halfway right. That site is having problems, I promise you. It may of had been good site once, looks like a 30second capacity test, which doesn't get exaggerated by powerboost, but I know for a FACT I can download more then 2.5Mbps. I regular pull 4-5MBps off my Preferred 32/10 Mbps connection and right now its saying 2.7Mbps. Actually the site itself says it's not a accurate speedtest, see http://2wire.com/bandwidth/represent.php
"What does this test actually measure?
This connection tests how fast your computer can load a Web page from the 2Wire Website. It does not measure the speed of your ISP connection, but rather the speed at which the page is received and appears in your browser."
So it says it black and white right there, its only the speed from their servers. Show your friends at work the test at Visualware. I am confident they will be impressed. BestBuy..hehe. I have friends that work at Bestbuy.
