incoming email

I have two friends, both of whom have cox internet, that have sent my primary email account several emails. None of their emails have come thru and they did not return to the senders. I asked them to send their emails thru my secondary address and I received the emails. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I get plenty of emails thru my primary but now wonder how many I'm missing.
