How is the printer connected to your computer? USB? Ethernet? Wifi?
Also, what modem/gateway/router do you have? The model numbers should be printed somewhere on them, usually on the bottom where the bar code sticker is.
printer is connected to computer via WiFi router. It prints and scans just fine via wireless, but it is supposed to be connected to the internet so I can print remotely via hpeprint.com. My older 8500 HP worked fine, but the newer model 8620 has trouble connecting to the internet so I can't print via my smartphone (HP app) or by sending an email to the printer like I used to be able to do.
Modem is the digital Cisco Model DPQ3212 modem given to us by Cox, which hasn't changed since the printers were changed out. Wireless router is a older Buffalo Air Station WBR-G54 Wireless Router.
My guess is the printer isn't compatible with the older router. Maybe something with UPnP? Can't think of anything to try though. Maybe someone else will have a idea.
Are you using the HP ePrint smartphone app? There's online support for the app that might be helpful. Check out the articles at http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01923321 and http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03721293. Also, make sure your smartphone has been "activated" with the HP ePrint service. What is your router band setting? HP printers only support the 2.4GHz band. Have you tried temporarily disabling all firewalls? It might be time to contact HP Customer Support. Their number is 800-474-6836.

Have you tried contacting HP support since it's their printer? What did they say?
