How is internet delivered to my home.
The reason I ask is I currently have Century Link but am switching to Cox next week. I recently upgraded my service to obtain a faster upload speed. I was hoping to get up to 5mbps but am only getting 1.06mbps. Century Link sent out a service tech, and after all the checking, he concluded I was too far from the switch box. The signal was weak at the box on the side of the house before it made it to the modem. In chatting with Cox, it appears that they do it the same way. What are my chances of it being any better? They want to try, but I can't possibly see how the outcome will be any different.

While Cox's hardware and infrastructure works the same way as CenturyLink, there is a good possibility that the way their nodes, or service blocks, are set up. So with Cox you might be closer to the "switch" box. However, they might be refering to something else. I would suggest a professional install of Cox, and see what signal they can get you before installing the service. If not better, you can always cancel the install.
