HDMI Passthrough

I just had the Countour (Cisco DPQ3925) DVR installed. Video (and audio) is output via HDMI and goes first to my Onkyo receiver and then on to the TV.  I have HDMI passthrough turned on in the receiver so that when the receiver is off, the video and audio are passed through to the TV.  However, now when I turn on the receiver, the video remains but there is no sound.  During the install, I did hear sound via the receiver, but something happened, and now there is no sound.  I have checked the Contour setup screens and I can't find anything that changes this behavior.  Is there a setting I am missing?  This worked fine for my DirecTV DVR that was replaced by the Coutour.

The DPQ3925 is a DVR? I thought that it was a DOCSIS 3.0 modem/phone/wireless gateway. It has no HDMI output. Are you sure of the model number?

Oops - that was the DOCIS modem.  The correct Contour model number is 9865HDC.  Sorry.  The DOCIS modem has nothing to do with this problem.

Hi HamsterDR,

Please check the audio settings in the cable box and let me know what you have selected for your Digital Output.

I suggest changing the Volume Level to Fixed. Let me know if this helps.

Now I have no sound even when the receiver is turned off - HDMI passthrough used to work.  Now nothing.  I have powered off and am rebooting the DVR.  Still no sound at all.

Just to trouble shoot, keep the Volume Level at Fixed, bypass the receiver and connect the HDMI cable straight from the cable box to the TV.

It was the Onkyo receiver.  I had to reset the receiver, and now I get sound from the cable box both with the receiver off (through the TV speakers) and on (through the speakers connected to the receiver).  I have no idea of what happened.  I think maybe the passthrough feature gets confused.
