Getting a card to operate my own DVR and cable box
Hi,
I just bought my own cable box w/dvr and need the program card so it will work. I was told that I CAN'T use my own box.....HELP!

NO, Cox will not pair a CableCARD to a Cisco or Scientific Atlanta, or Motorola STB or DVR. These are not sold retail in the US. It is most likely stolen (never returned) or was meant for a recycling facility.
Your 8742HDC is just a doorstop. Hope you did not pay too much for it.
(Technically, Cox could make it work if they could get the proper key from Cisco for that batch of units, but they won't)
The only STB and DVRs Cox will authorize and pair with a Retail CableCARD are Retail devices - TiVo, Moxi, Samsung GX-SM530CF Cable Box and PC based devices.
