Emails don't actually get sent

In the last two weeks or so my emails sent from my cox.net account don't make it to their addressees, even though they show up in my sent items folder. This happens when I send them from my iPhone, iPad and computer (MS Office 2007). Sending from Cox Webmail works fine. I found a way around it on my iPhone and iPad, turning off the cox SMPT server and turning on SMPT server of another email account! This can't be an issue on the recipients side as we're talking too many emails here...nor is it an issue of the wrong SMTP server settings because it shows up as sent in the sent items folder. Or is it???

With the mail programs/apps showing the emails in sent they should be reaching the mail server correctly. If you try to send a email to yourself or another account you have access to, does it do the same thing showing in the sent folder but nothing coming back in the Inbox?

Yes, I've tried sending myself a test email a number of times, to my cox.net address but also other addresses I have, without receiving anything...

Server port is 465, SSL is enabled and authentication is set to password. IMO if these settings were incorrect the emails wouldn't show up in my sent items...?

PeteKoop,

I suggest changing your password at cox.net to one that you have never used before and updating the new password in all your clients. Let me know if this helps.

PeteKoop,

When you send the test messages do include other email addresses that you can verify the messages are being received. Have you tried removing the authentication settings? From the information you provided sounds like you are using Mac Mail.  For troubleshooting purposes, remove the authentication settings and set the outgoing server port to 25 (not 465), try sending again.

I have exactly the same problem as PeteKoop, and the problems started about the same time. Sending from Outlook or iPhone, they never make it to the addressee but show up in the WebMail's sent items folder. If I send from WebMail they work fine and do not show up in the WebMail's sent items folder.

I suppose that the SMTP settings are correct, otherwise they would never show up in the WebMail's sent items folder.

Did you find a way to solve it?

Hi EdgarMora,

I suggest deleting the outgoing server setting only, not the incoming, and re-entering them. Here are the settings for the server. Let me know if this helps.

I have wasted so much time in the last two weeks resetting passwords changing port addresses but mostly on hold, getting a come on to upgrade my bundle. If you do get someone to talk to they start blaming your equipment. XP, android and iOS all on the fritz all on the same day. No mention of a credit to your account for the hours of down time or the hours spend getting the run around on the tech line or the live chat!
