What you've described is actually a very common occurrence. What email utility do you use? It sounds like your computer has been infected with malware that is using your email address book to send out spam. Are you running any security software on your PC? If yes, open the security software, make sure the detection files are up-to-date, and then run a full scan.
Cox offers many resources, learning tools, as well as free McAfee security software for our customers. Learn more about Cox Security Suite Plus Powered by McAfee at http://bit.ly/Activate-or-RenewCoxSecuritySuite_McAfee. There are also many excellent anti-virus and anti-spyware programs available online for free.

You can do some detective work yourself. Go into your online email (webmail) and get into Classic Mail. Click on the blue Settings button. Look at the category Blocked Addresses. If there are blocked addresses that you didn't enter, someone got into your account. Also look at the Sent folder. If the spam emails are there, someone got into your account. All you can do is change your password.
If they did not get into your account (they probably didn't), they are using your return address in their spam. They can do it fairly easily. They are "spoofing" the system to show that you are sending the emails when they were NOT sent from your account. Not much you can do about this except call Cox support. One Tier 2 rep was nice enuf to call the IP where the spams originated ( in Iowa) and tell them about the fraudulent account. That shut down one spammer immediately.
