No, they are the same. The email address belongs to whoever owns the domain. So Tom@att.net would belong to ATT and Sam@cox.net would belong to Cox.

You might be able to get a similar email, like Tom5@cox.net but the email in the ATT inbox would not carry over. However, any email you have stored in Outlook or a similar email program would still be there even if you change the email the program is downloading for.

Thank you for your post. I have switched to Cox and have a Cox e-mail account @Cox.net but it appears that my AT&T e-mail is still able to receive e-mails addressed to my @ATT.net e-mail account. I'm wondering if this account will continue to be available unless I cancel it. I could call AT&T but typical calls to them are 30-45 minutes long.

Your best bet would be to contact AT&T to find out how long the address will remain active.

You may be able to sign in to that email account's settings to see if there is an option to configure a "reply to" address where you can others know to reply to your Cox email address. You may also have the option to forward email messages to your Cox email address in the settings, but these are options you would want to make sure AT&T makes available.
