Downstream light is Amber Speeds now very slow

All day today my modem has displayed the DS light as an Amber color and my speeds have dropped from 30/15 to 6/8. I've tried chatting with Cox Chat support and they don't do anything to solve the issue. My modem was supplied by Cox. It's a Cisco  DPQ3212

This is what is displayed when logging onto the modem from a browser:

Model: Cisco DPQ3212

Firmware Name: D3212-P15-5-v302r12901-111114a-COX.bin
Firmware Build Time: Nov 14 2011 16:35:56
Cable Modem Status: Operational

Channel 4: 0.0 dBmv 0.0 dB
Channel 5: 0.0 dBmv 0.0 dB

I've power cycled the modem several times, including pulling out the rechargeable battery, yet the light stays amber. Anyone have any ideas?

I'd suggest trying to connect a different device to the modem to see if it chnages color.  If that doesn't help a service call may be in order to determine if the modem has failed.

well, i called the tech support today, and the nice person on the other end explained it to me in terms that i couldn't understand! makes me mad! either he was showing off or he was really blowing smoke up you know where, cuz  he didn't know the answer.

but what i do remember him saying is that the modem regulated itself from multiple streams down to one, since we only have one (i guess). he said that if we had the highest speed we'd have a problem, but we have the next highest and we shouldn't notice any difference in down speed. but i think i got this modem from cox early this year and it just turned amber last week, so why did it take so long in "regulating itself"???

My speeds ended up coming back 2 days later. Funny how they INSISTED so badly that a tech come out and take a look at it...only for it to correct itself. I knew what the issue was but their tech support played me as I was wrong. Give it a few days to see if it comes back.

It's true that if there is a signal anomoly of any kind the modem would fall back to legacy 2.0 modem where it'll only bond a single downstream channel.  To get the additional channels back a reboot is required or in the case with a phone/modem combo device the reset button on the back.  Also note the modem will reboot itself on it's own after 10 minutes of inactivity should it realize the bonded channels are available again.

I started having this problem myself today. I know that I was running multiple channels, and now I am down to one. what the heck? Guess I will attempt reboot and if that doesnt work, I will be calling for troubleshooting and repair.
