Download speed capped at 25 Mbps on 50 Mbps preferred account

I do have a DOCSIS 3.0 modem.  I've chatted with reps regarding the issue.  It was confirmed that I am on a 50 Mbps plan.  I was told the modem was provisioned correctly.  I am on a wired connection.  My modem was reset and there was no difference in speed.  The rep confirmed that the firmware and signal levels seemed OK.  The speed is consistently measured at 25 Mbps leaving me to believe that it is not a signal issue but an artificial cap at exactly 25 Mbps.  My modem is a Cisco 3010.  How can I fix this issue so that I can enjoy 50 Mbps? Thank you.

Dear ColleenD,

Thank you for your help!  It was a device issue on my side.  I was using a computer, but one card was defective for some reason.

Everything is resolved.  Thanks again.

I had a similar issue, it turned out to be my router.  When I bypassed the router, I was able to achieve the rated speeds.  My Linksys WRT54GL router is several years old.  After flashing the router firmware with Tomato, I was able to achieve faster rates, but still not the highest.

Thanks for the tip, but I have the issue even when the router is bypassed.

RobH, the WET54GL is an antique by technology standards.  It was released in 2005 and is a "g" router.  Even though g is rated at 54Mbps, in the real world, under ideal conditions, you will maybe hit 30.  Actually 15 to 20Mbps is normal.  Even Tomato won't help, it's the limit of the 10 year old technology.  I would replace the router and be sure you have a DOCSIS 3 modem to go with the new router.

My problem is without a router directly wired limited to exactly 25 Mbps.  I do have a DOCSIS 3 modem (Cisco 3010).  Is anybody on the preferred plan with the Cisco 3010 getting more than 25 Mbps?  Thanks.

Hi, Crust.

Where are you running your speed test, and with what device? I think I've located your account and everything looks fine from here, but I don't see any recorded speed tests. Please run a test here http://bit.ly/CoxSpeedTest while hard wired to the modem and report back with the results.
