Doubled Speed just does not cut it...

Hello Cox,

I was in Europe when the double your speed program was announced and I was looking forward to the enhanced speed I will be getting upon my return. Its been a month now and I have been on the phone and chatted with the hepdesk dozen times about not getting the 50mbps I am currently paying for. Yes, I got 109mbps Friday morning at 6 am but most times during the day I barely touch 40 mbps. It is Sunday, 10 am in Phoenix, AZ and my speedtest returned an inferior result of 36 mbps download when actually I am paying for 50. Why are you guys advertising Doubled Speeds if your network can't handle what people are paying for? All the helpdesk does is reset my modem from a remote location which doesn't fix squat... The problem is the high volume of subscribers on an inferior network... DOCSIS 3 modem is just fine and doing it's best to serve me well. It was connected without a router when I performed the test so NO, the router did not play any fault at all.

Appreciate your time, but maybe it's time COX step up and apologize to the masses.

Sincerely,

Matyoka

Ohiyo Matyoka,

Curious, i am looking forward to coming speed boost.

Doesn't docsis3 modem have built in router?

Does your computer maybe need adjustments to network settings to allow for higher band width?

Gotagift,

There are a dozen DOCSIS 3 modems and only 2-3 have routers built in... My computer doesn't need adjusting because I get the double speeds early in the morning and after midnight. I described the issues in my complaint, your assumptions are erroneous... read more carefully.

Regards...

Good to know there is no packet loss... ONE computer on the modem, NO router involved and this is my COX Speedcheck:

You still think everything is okeydokey? Doubled speed...
Din't think so....

Tiff,

This is my only pc and as mentioned before, the speeds are good in the mornings when nobody is home... It's not my wiring, modem or pc.

new speedcheck at 10 am

Please do so. I complied with your request, sent the email with all the info requested. The techs must be here when peak time usage is the case, not at 9 am when I get the best results...

This is now and NOT acceptable:

So it's 13 minutes past midnight and I bet my speed is pretty fast now that everyone is sleeping... let's see.

But of course it's awesome now, too bad I am going to bed. So COX, you guys still think that you can handle peak times at doubled speeds? At least give me the speed I am paying for all the time and I will get off your case...

I rest my case.

Matyoka has made an excellent case here with plenty of evidence for an otherwise simple configuration (1PC connected via ethernet to modem).

Based on the peak hours degredation in performance, it looks like Cox has a saturated node and should split it to provide service as advertised.

Thanks ATP,

I tried to make it as simple as possible for COX by furnishing supporting evidence. Everyone knows the dynamics of the Broadband System: The more people on the node the slower the speed gets. Don't offer double speeds until you fix the issue with the speeds people pay for... On a second note, have not heard from COX yet although I have a ticket in place :)

One thing I did notice taking a look from this end is you appear to have one of the older 4 channel DOCSIS 3.0 modems.  These models due to the limited 4 channel capacity aren't suitable for 100Mbps service.  While the modem's theoretical maximum download speed is near 160Mbps due to the shared nature of cable speeds become less consistent when the provisioned rate exceeds 50% of the modem's rated speed.  If upgrading the modem is a possibility that would be my next suggestion.

Zoom DOCSIS 3.0 served me well for the last 2 years and according to my speed checks, when COX is not congested I do get 110 mbps download speeds. Thanks for the heads up, appreciate it.
