Double speed and Monthly Data Plan

I did a search on the forum and only found one hit for someone asking this question without any response from Cox. Can anyone explain to me why Cox is doubling the internet speed on it's tiers but leaving the Monthly Data Plan allowance the same? The commercials I've seen on TV advertising this new speed increase all talk about how you can now stream more and do more. Doesn't that come with the assumption that you'll be using more data per month? As it is now this "speed increase" is coming across to me more as a marketing tool than anything else.

Speed and data consumption aren't necessarily a 1 to 1 correlation.  How much data one consumes will be dependent mostly on their usage habits.  A user that primarily watches Netflix or other streaming content probably won't notice much change in usage.

To answer the basic question however ,at this time I'm not not aware of any changes planned to the advertised data allowances.

I understand that it's not a 1 to 1 correlation but you can't deny that if someone is provider with higher speeds that they would have a higher likelihood to use a greater amount of data per month? Even Netflix throttles the quality of the video you receive based on the performance it's able to achieve on your internet connection. Netflix alone negotiating to a higher quality video stream based on faster available internet speeds would result in the use of more data per month.

The home page for Cox advertises that it's now 3x faster than Verizon Fios. I can't help but feel that this is solely a marketing tactic aimed at Verizon. Verizon enforces no data allowances per month so as I understand it you could actually do more per month with a slower connection with them than with a faster connection with Cox?

Of course it's a marketing ploy. And the Netflix reference is ridiculous. My Preferred speed of 25 down is plenty fast to stream Netflix flawlessly. And yet I can't even use the speed I have now to it's full potential. I have to stream Netflix on my Roku at 720p instead of 1080p in order to stay under the 250gb/mo. data cap. But Chris is correct in one respect. This Netflix streamer will see no increase in his data usage with the coming speed increase, but only because I won't be able to use the extra speed.
