Hi, I've recently have gotten an email from Cox about Data Use Overage a few days ago and saw something abnormal.
This issue just started January and our online routines have not changed much at all. We are normally on Netflix, I'm watching Youtube videos, surfing the net, chatting on Skype IM and browsing on Deviant Art. My computer is clear of viruses and I checked my network and only see 3 devices using it at max (PS3, Desktop, Laptop). It wasn't until today that a friend notified me of the new HD Video Quality settings that Netflix and Youtube are using now. I discovered Netflix's HD High Quality Settings uses 3 GB of data per hour. I was really living it up on the Doctor Who videos for the past 2 months. Especially now after I am recovering from foot surgery. I had no idea of this going on until I got the email from you guys because I thought something was really off. I readjusted to the Standard Video Quality (0.7 GB per Hour) and readjusted the new Youtube Settings to standard. Hopefully this information can help others second check that are having the same issues as me.
For the administrators, the email I used for this message is the account I have for Cox and just wanted to let you guys know that I fixed the issue. I would've never known if it wasn't for the email. We've been using Cox for many years and never had that issue with the data overage.

It's a shame you can't watch these in hd as the maker of the show intends.

Who cares. Cox isn't going to do anything if you go over. You'll get a warning email and if it persists they will tell you to upgrade to a higher package. Once you get to the highest package they won't do anything because their next step is to cancel you and they will not want to lose 100 bucks a month for something that costs them 10 bucks.

Agreed on that. If we normally use a lot of data, then I wouldn't mind upgrading but I barely ever go past 100. I only have 250 for the faster speeds. Netflix's new "upgrade" was the reason for all this bandwidth absorption. I fixed the settings on Netflix and I'll see how that goes.

But it did seem to make a quite of difference since I fixed it when I posted this topic. We continued our Doctor Who watching habits with the settings fixed on Netflix (No noticeable difference to the picture quality of the shows either when set to Standard) and it looks like there is a considerable change compared to it before in data use. I was out of town on the 24th and on27th and 28th, I was working while my dad spends his time watching his shows on Netflix and then I sit with my mom for a few hours after I get home from work at night and watch Doctor Who. Big difference between the now 4.7gigs with the fixed settings then the 25gigs for doing the same thing with the HD settings on Netflix. LOL!
