I was on a business trip all last week (7/22-26) and my wife was away. During this time my usage meter continued to show over 10 GB per day usage even though all PC's were turned off during this time. I recently upgraded to the premier package but I am still busting the monthly usage allowance. Should I be powering down my internet modem to avoid periods of inactivity?

What is most likely happening is something connecting wirelessly to the router is using that amount of bandwidth and it is not your computers at all. Putting the modem in standby or powering it or the router off would fix the usage. But in the long run you may want to check if there is other devices in the home connecting or resecure the router with a different password if a neighbor or someone you are not aware of around you is using the connection.
