Data usage updating---it stinks

It seems that Cox gets a little hyper when the data usage allowance is exceeded. I have no problem with that.  What I do have a problem  with is the fact that they are 2-3 days behind in updating the statistics.

In December, our son gave us a ROKU box for Christmas and off to the races we went. As a result, in our misguided enthusiasm, in January we exceeded our prescribed allowance of data usage. In fact, we murdered it. I got a rather strong e-mail to cease and desist. Since then I have checked it every day to insure that we are not on another path to destruction.  i.e., I didn't much like the threatening e-mail and don't want another one.

What I want to know is what's so hard about keeping the site updated???? Are their computers as slow as mine? If so, I apologize and I will try to control my invalid wife and get her to cease and desist on watching so many movies on NETFLIX ($7.99 each month), which is a *** of a lot cheaper than HBO, SHOWTIME, etc. The problem is, being the site is not updated daily, like it says on the website that it is, I tend to not want to hurt her feelings when she asks how much data usage we have left?

Do you see my problem?

I certainly see your problem and totally agree.  In fact I posted the same complaint several days ago with no response.  My stats are now about 4 days behind.  Seems like the more we pay the worse the service gets.  When I first subscribed it was for UNLIMITED internet access, usenet access, and a personal webspace.  I have since lost all three and my bill has more than doubled.  I'm eagerly awaiting U-Verse in my area.

I see they are not monitoring this site much either. I expected to see, at the speed of light, (186,282 miles per second, to be exact), a reply saying they will fix the problem. I, apparently, was wrong. I started out, way back yonder, at $19.95 (or was it $15.95?, it's been so many years ago, I forgit) for internet service. Now, it's $51.94, including something they call the "Cox Service Assurance Plan" which adds $5.95 to my costs.   What the *** is that?  It was never mentioned to me that I had a bandwidth limit until I went over it in January, hence the infamous e-mail.

The next time I get a threatening E-mail, they can shove it where where the sun don't shine.

Nope.  Never got a response to my previous post, either.  Frankly I think usage caps are a joke.  If the real problem is bandwidth then caps really do nothing to solve that problem.  It's simple enough to save your usage until the end of the month and then clobber the network with continuous high speed downloads.  They really caused the problem themselves by continuing to raise the download speed to the point that bandwidth is an issue.  I'd be perfectly happy with speeds around 12mbps (or lower) and no caps.

I can almost, in my old feeble mind's eye, see it coming. Probably, the next cap imposed is a daily or weekly cap.

You're probably right.  My whole experience with Cox has been subpar.  Have you ever attempted tech support over the phone?  All they can do is read from a card.  AT&T may not be any better, but I'll probably give them a shot when uverse gets to me.

I see they're responding to other posts.  I suppose this problem isn't important enough to bother with.

I emailed Cox last week about the problem, and this is the canned response I got:

Thank you for your e-mail regarding your account.

At this time, someone from our Technical Support Group can better assist you. We can be reached at 225-615-1000. We do apologize for the inconvenience.

We hope that we have sufficiently addressed your concerns and answered all of your questions to your satisfaction. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Thank you for choosing Cox Communications where we value your business.

Now wasn't that helpful?  I'm not sure how Tech Support can help me fix their problem.

U-verse isn't going to be any better. They also have a cap but instead of a threatening email you get charged $10 for every 50GB exceeding. They have a limit on the U-verse for 250gb across the board. At least Cox does have the option of 400GB (for a very pretty penny) if needed.

Really not the issue.  At least with ATT I know what I'm getting.  With Cox I've put up with continually escalating prices and continual reduction in service.  So it's more the priciple of the thing that anything else.  However, based upon the sorry quality of my cable reception, my expectation is an improvement with Uverse, and that would make the switch worthwhile.
