Customer Service... Is It Really That Difficult?

Sigh. I'm not a rude person. I'm just not. So it's tremendously difficult when calling Cox and trying to cancel certain services and the CSR just keeps offering the same services, just downgraded a bit or with a discount for a year or whatever. I had said no as many different ways as I could say it without exploding before I just got too frustrated and hung up. He was a nice fellow and and I know that it's his job to try to talk me out of canceling anything, so I would have felt bad losing it on him. But it was getting to that point, so I had to hang up.  Cox purposely won't let you remove services from your account online... they insist that you call and speak to someone... so there's no getting out of this. I have to call back, get someone else, and go through the whole process over again. Maybe next time I'll get someone with just a hint of attitude and I won't mind getting as blunt as I have to. One of my brothers said he went through the exact same thing when trying to cancel his phone... it went on and on, and the guy wasn't just trying to talk him out of it, but trying to *argue* him out of it. My bro finally had to get really hateful and destroy the guy's soul... kidding... sort of. Why must they make it SO difficult???  Why must I have to stay on the phone FOREVER to listen to someone try to convince me to keep a service that I don't need?  Why must I say no a hundred different ways and STILL not get the service cancelled?  Like I said, I couldn't take it anymore and had to just hang up.  Now I have to call back and go through the same thing all over again with someone else.  Is there any magic word I can say that will make the CSR just do what I am requesting without arguing?

Can you describe for me what changes you're wanting to make?  Perhaps I can get somebody in touch with you to help.

Called back.  Second call was even more frustrating, but I finally got all the changes accomplished that I wanted.  The rep had me angry enough to spit nails.  I will not try to give you a play-by-play of our entire conversation, but suffice it to say his condescending tone and (lack of) customer service were another nail in the almost-closed coffin of my Cox services.
