cursing about cox email? maybe you can save money on cox speed.

So, I was roaming around the net cursing about cox email, when I ran across the fact that Cox sells residential accounts at more money for faster speed

So I tried one of those see how fast your connection is sites http://www.speedtest.net/ and found that I am not getting nearly the speeds Cox was charging me for.  Turns out they have me as a Preferred customer, which is about $50 a month.  I am only getting Essential speed, which is about $35 a month.  So I had them change mine to Essential.  I see no difference whatever in functioning.  Of course, no refund from Cox for stealing the $15 extra a month from me for months or years.

Angry about no email?  At least you can cost them $15 a month if you are okay with Essential speed.

It appears you have an older single channel modem which isn't ideally suited for the faster speeds now being offered.  Upgrading to a newer DOCSIS 3.0 gives you access to a feature called channel bonding which provides for a more consisten epxerience with regards to Internet speeds.

Chris - Is channel bonding supposed to be available for all areas? I had 3 channel downstream bonding for about 1 month and now it no longer bonds any channels. Not sure if this is on purpose or if I have a technical issue.

I did try asking somebody that knows about this stuff to take a look.  Modems should bond regarless of the tier of service subscribed to if it is available.

Trudy - congrats!!  Self-help more often than not will pay off.

I just got a Cox webmail email advising me that Cox had now delivered all my back email -  and I'm supposed to be convinced of that how ?? - particularly since I cannot receive or send email on my Macintosh.  Cox tech agents on two successive days (after waiting over an hour "for the next available agent") had verified all my email settings & signaled Cox

had done all it could do for me when I advised I could send & receive email on Cox webmail only - since last Monday when we were advised 'all had been resolved for those Cox customers previously impacted.  Cox advised I had a "software" issue & TO CALL APPLE.

I have stopped cursing too.  I am switching to a competing Internet Service Provider. Cox provided me with 3 yrs of reliable service until they proved to 100% of their current residential customers who were impacted that COX HAS A COMMUNICATION PROBLEM - on multiple levels.
