Copyright e mail

So I got an email by COX stating that someone was using my IP address to download illegal movies. And it included original message from IP-Echelon stating all the details. Of course I am worried about this, and I do not want any trouble due to silly TV shows.

I have taken all the suggested steps that were in the email.

This is the first time I received an email like that.

My question is, as I have complied with all the suggestions stated in the email from both cox and IPechlon, should I be worried about lawsuits and such, or this is just a warning.

Thank you!

Should say in the email if it's a warning. Usually it is. When it comes to IP, Cox has our back:

"BMG Rights Management and Round Hill Music LP filed suit against Cox Communications...repeatedly refused to terminate the accounts of repeat offenders...Cox pleaded ignorance..was found guilty of contributory copyright infringement and ordered to pay $25 million in damages." See more here.

Keep fighting the good fight Cox.

First, privacy is a virtue. Second, make sure you have good antivirus and antimalware. Check the client doesn't run in background and turn off your upload. Next, keep a eye on your bandwidth use. Last Newsgroups > torrents.

Hello, I would suggest you start using a VPN for your torrenting activities. I personally use Private Internet Access and have not received DMCA infringement since I've started using their service. They're fast and reliable, no slowdowns in download and a negligible ping increase. A good VPN is crucial to protect your anonymity online. Also this will help to shield Cox from the DMCA since they do their part to protect their customers.
