I have a 2 tuner 8742hdc DVR running Contour. It was powered off for about 1/2 hour yesterday afternoon while we cleaned the home theater center. The following were scheduled to record using series recordings last evening:
8:00-10:00 DWTS
8:00-9:00 Supergirl
8:00-9:00 Gotham (not scheduled because of conflict)
9:00-10:00 Scorpion
10:00-11:00 NCIS-LA
10:00-11:00 Blindspot
At 8:00 we were watching something previously recorded assuming DTWS & Supergirl would record. Supergirl did record from the beginning but DTWS never started. At about 8:25 the prerecorded show was over and I noticed DTWS wasn't recording so I manually started it missing the first 25 mins. At 10:00 we were also watching a prerecorded show, NCIS-LA started on-time, Blindspot started about 16 mins late, only recording 44 mins.
What's going on with the Contour IPG? If last evening is any indication, I can't rely on it carrying out my recording schedule. I didn't receive a conflict popup asking if I wanted to switch channels, so that couldn't be the issue. The old Passport software was reliable, it would notify you of series conflicts, allow you to change priorities, and execute your schedule. Contour is just very buggy junkware, I expect a lot more with all the $$$ I pay to Cox each month.

Is recording scheduled handled on the DVR or does it store any of the data on Cox's servers? I remeber there being test for certain tunnels (not sure if QAM or IP) that needed to be open for the DVR service on Whole Home DVRs to work. I think it was the DOCSIS modems inside the units being used to send data. I mention this because maybe having the DVR off messed with this system.
Were you looking to troubleshoot the issue or just discuss that it happened?

I'd love to try to troubleshoot this issue. After powering the DVR back on, I checked the Scheduled Recording screen, everything was as it should be. Therefor, the DVR listed the correct schedule entering the evening. It did record Jeopardy at 7:00 correctly.
I have to assume the schedule is kept locally in the DVR because when you replace a DVR all schedules are lost as well as all recordings on the hard drive. If Cox was keeping them on one of their servers you would think it could be downloaded to a replacement unit ... just my logic ... I really don't know what Contour is doing.

DWTS went to 10:01pm... And NCIS LA started early at 9:59
Creating additional conflicts.

NCIS-LA recorded fine, it just followed Scorpion which also worked. In the past, when there was a 1 min issue like DTWS ending at 10:01 and Blindspot starting at 10 even, the DVR would switch over and start the 2nd recording a min late. Maybe that is part of the issue, the DVR got confused switching from ABC to NBC a min after the show started, so it did nothing. Also, the Scheduled Recordings screen did not show the conflict ... it indicated everything would be recorded ... except Gotham which did not appear on the Scheduled screen as it was in conflict, I know about that one.

Again, I think your problem revolves around blindspot having a higher priority than DWTS so DTWS didn't record. You then manually started recording DWTS giving it a higher priority than blindspot hence blindspot not recording.
Not getting a conflict may be due to the 1 min dwts bump happened in the last day or so. When you programmed the above recordings, dwts may have had a 10pm ending.
idk... Just throwing some ideas out there based on my past experiences.

It may be very well these 1 min overlap the networks are using to screw with DVRs. My priority for Monday night is: NCIS LA, DWTS, Scorpion, Supergirl, Gotham, Blindspot. The CBS shows, priority 1, 3 & 4 all recorded correctly and there could not be an overlap as they are on the same channel. The problem comes with DWTS (2) and Blindspot (6), neither worked. In my mind, going by priorities, at least NCIS-LA & DWTS should have worked since they are 1 & 2 in that three hour slot.
Maybe the overlap is causing problems, but, IMHO, a 1 min overlap shouldn't determine nothing else gets recorded in that entire 1 hour time block. It should just start the next recording a minute late.
Mark K, thank you for your thoughts on the subject. If you have any more ideas considering the priorities I just posted, I greatly appreciate them. Thanks

"Should handle" and "Does handle" can have very different results... :)
I do not know how Contour handles conflicts but I know for a fact that my non-contour dvr (ReplayTV) will not record any part of a show if it has a 1 minute overlap.
