Yes, I think it is.  I just got a Contour 2 myself a couple of weeks ago.  The default is the power savings is turned off.  I went into the settings and had mine go off after 2 hours of inactivity, so now when I get up in the morning it is off.  I had it set for 1 hour, but even if you are watching something and don't change the channel, it will give you a warning that it is going to turn off, so I set it at 2 hours.
