Constant Disconnects

For over a year I have had this problem with constantly getting disconnected from the internet,Every Day, some times 2-3 times in an hour. except for a 2 month period where after Cox replaced the cable under the street.Oddly enough the problem started again after a Cox truck was working on the pedestal across the street.

I have had a dozen techs out to my home gone through 5 modems ,one of which I purchased from Cox for $100, I have changed out all the cables in my home and computer, tried new cards etc but still the problem continues,Needless to say this is getting very frustrating..................any ideas

Certainly sounds signal related for the issue, are you seeing the disconnects more at specific times of day or is it completely random?

It's pretty much random and happens all through out the day

I had the same problems. You might want to call cox and ask them to monitor your connection and a few of your neighbors to see if it is just you having the problems or a few people. That helped me because it turned out to not be an isolated incident.

The upstream signal levels do seem to range throughout the day which could cause inconstant connectivity. Do you know about how long ago it started when you saw the technician working on the lines?

As i said before the problem started well over one year ago.During that time I must have had 8 plus techs come out to the house, went trough 4 modems.changed out all the cable in my house ,Cox even changed the cable under the street from the pedestal to my home,That fixed the issue for about 2 months ,I recall August to Sept 2013.Then there was a tech working on the pedestal across the street apparently installing a service on a home,1 week later the problem started again. I called Cox and they sent out another tech, all he did was change out my modem (which is rented from Cox).

The issue still continues and is beginning to become problematic, Trying to do personal business online ad fill out forms etc and getting continuous disconnects .I was told that my house is  at the end of the line for cable service and according to a few of my tech buddies this can and may be the issue. I just wish would fix the problem as we are pretty much a captive audience in my araea. There is only one other provider and I;ve heard they are worse for customer service

Did you happen to notice if it was a "Cherry picker" type truck, or a white Cox van?

Also, when the internet disconnects, do you notice if the lights on the modem change or reset?

Last, do you have any other Cox services, and if so, do they have issues at the same time as the internet?

What difference does it make whether it's a van or truck. it had big blue letters on it  COX cable. and yes the modem resets and no other services , I came here for help but as usual I get a run around . forget it I''l go else where

Seriously? You call that the run around? Im asking for data and context of the situation. If its white van, its a installer tech or inhouse trouble call technician. If it was a bucket truck, it may have been a maintenance technician. Knowing what kind of technician was working on it would have told us is he/she caused the issue, or was working on the issue, or other. What kind of answer were you expecting?

But you know what? Never-mind, now I don't feel like helping you.

I appreciate any positive feed back I can get but obviously you did not read what I had previously written.

Yes I did. I am very careful about reading every post and typing suggestions specifically for it. Where in your original post did you answer my questions?

But anyway, I digress. Does someone else want to take this one? Im moving on. Good luck.

One thing I did notice was that the firmware was out of date on the modem and sent the update.  Please let us know if there is any change.

Appreciate that Chris, unfortunately as of today the problem still exists, 2 disconnects this morning so far,

One of my tech guru friends told me that the modem is rebooting its self, due to the fact that its receiving intermittent signals ,The reboot is almost instant. like 5-6 seconds ,

I'm on preferred, and used to get these disconnects all the time.. The fix for me, was upgrading to a D3 modem.. The old D2 modem couldn't keep up with the speeds preferred has gotten to.. Since getting the D3 modem, connections have been rock-solid

kiwi,

If the coaxial connections have been double checked to ensure everything is tight and there is no damage to the lines or connectors, the next thing to try is bypassing any splitters between the modem and the wall. If there are none, or doing so doesn't help it may be best to have a technician scheduled to visit your home. Email me at cox.help@cox.com with your account information, a reference to this forum post and what day would be best for you to have the tech scheduled and we'll be able to let you know what the availability is for that day.

@ Dave I have the CG3000D modem.

Colleen, Has I previously mention I have had techs out to my home at least 8 times, I replaced all the cables in my home and have gone through 4-5 modems ,one of which I bought form Cox for $100.00 and now sits in my closet ,I ran a home run line from where my modem connects to the service connection from the street to the house, Cox replaced the cable under the street from the pedestal to my home. This seemed to have fixed the issue for approximately 2 months, One day when coming home from work I noticed a Cox vehicle apparently installing a new cable service to the house across the street, I don't know if this has any correlation to my service ,but within days my internet started to have the same reoccurring issues with constant disconnects, I was also told that my house is the last house on the line. There are no splitters or such on my line, and only run internet, no tv or phone. I wondering if this type of modem can handle a 70 meg connection, I have the Netgear CG3000D.

I have run every kind of diagnostics on my computer, changed out cards etc and every thing is fine at my end.Basically what happens is the internet light on the modem goes out, I lose connection and then it resets and I get connection back, All in about 10-15 seconds.

Thanks
