Connect a cable modem
I already have cox internet service. I purchased a modem to replace my rented modem. I moved the cable from the old modem to the new modem but the new modem still does not have internet service. I can also access the modem's config page from my browser and it the config pages show that it is getting a good signal. How do I get internet service thru it?

First, turn the modem off. Then you need to call Cox and give them the modem's model number, Serial number (S/N) and HFC (Customer) MAC address. It is usually all printed on a sticker with a bar code. Then turn the modem on and wait for Cox to give the all clear. Only after that do you connect your computer or router to it. This keeps the router/PC from locking with a 169 or some other invalid IP.
Also, you may want to ask them what to do with the old modem. Sometimes they ask you to bring it back to one of their stores.
