Cisco 8642HDC Analog Audio output problems.

I recently connected a Cisco 8642HDC with an HDMI cable into my A/V receiver.  I am able to receive both video and audio through the HDMI cable - no problems.   My receiver offers a Zone 2 output - (outside speakers) but requires an analog audio input from Cisco 8642HDC.   After extensive troubleshooting with my receiver/cables/Cable box settings - it appears that the Cisco 8642HDC does not provide an analog output when the main connection is HDMI?   Is anyone else familiar with this issue?

That is odd. I would normally test that but I do not have an AV reviver in the Office to test with. I will make myself a note and try it with mine at home. So I will not be able to get an answer until tomorrow.

The Cisco 8642HDC has two pairs of analog output.  In its User's Guide cisco.com/web/consumer/support/settop_8642HD.html on page 4 they are labeled 4 and 6. Note that connector 5 is a video not audio output.  Both of these work with HDMI on my Cisco 8642HDC, except for the firmware bug that I  described at forums.cox.com/forum_home/tv_forum/f/4/t/514.aspx .  I  get audio output for selected setting of MONO, STEREO, and SURROUND SOUND in the 8642's  SETTINGS | ANALOG & VIDEO | AUDIO SETTINGS | ANALOG OUTPUT.  This setting should be STEREO for RCA audio output.

Suggest that you start by rereading your reciever's User's Guide Zone 2 setup and troubleshooting sections.  My guess is that there may be a level setting for Zone 2 that is too low or the analog audio output is plugged into the wrong RCA connector on the receiver.

You can rule out a problem with the 8642 by checking for output from back panel outputs 4 or 6 to a device other than your A/V receiver.  If your TV has RCA analog input and speakers then that should work.  If you don't hear anything then check the volume level on the TV's audio.  If you hear 8642 audio from the other device then it must be A/V receiver's connections or settings. You can rule out a problem with your A/V receiver by trying a different analog audio source for Zone 2 input and you hear it.

P.S.  If you can't resolve the problem then providing the brand and model number of your A/V receiver would be helpful.

Art,

I just got home and tested my analog audio output using a red and white RCA connection to my Sony A/V receiver.  my normal connection is HDMI. I was able to get audio out of both the HDMI connection and the Analog connection.  With both hooked up at the same time.

I will ask around to see if any one else is able to duplicate your issue. However, since we currently cannot duplicate it this normally points to something specific about your setup that is causing this issue to happen.

I have a similar  issue with a Harmon Kardon AVR 350 receiver.  The second zone has worked until the last month.  I have made no changes to the settings or connections.  I have a Scientific Atlanta DVR.
