"Channels Temporarily Offline"

Good evening,

Lately, I have been noticing there are several channels in my line-up that I have not been able to receive yet I still pay to watch them.  It is very frustrating to want to watch a show or movie and find out the channel is "Temporarily Offline."  I was looking at past problems other have had regarding this issue and there wasn't really a solution for their problems a year ago.  So, becuase of that, I am posting this to try to get an answer.  Is there a fix for these issues or do I just have to "live with them?"

""Temporarily Offline." is a message the cable box gives when ever it can't turn into the station it has mapped for that channel. There could still be signal on that channel, just not enough for the picture to kick in.

If your getting that message on "certain" channels "all" of the time, then its probably the box needs to be reset to re-scan the channels, or there is a problem on just the frequency of certain channels. If your getting the message on random channels and sometimes they come in and sometimes they dont, then its more likly the signal strength is low going to that cable box.

First step is to check all cable connections at the wall and going to the back of the box. Then reboot the cable box. If this fixes it for a bit, but then it comes back, then its probably a low signal problem. To fix a low signal problem, you have to find out where the signal is dropping. To answer that I would need to know more about how the cable wire gets from the street to your cable box.

Hi Tomzee in Omaha here,

I have a similar problem, I have a cablecard in my set.  My problem is I go to the music channels and get a no signal statement.  This morning I went to 939 and got a no signal and then moved down the channels and then it started working around 930.  Then I went back up and it's working fine.  Last month I couldn't get a thing in the 900 range and another thing on 939 it seems the volume isn't consistent.

Any thoughts?  tX

Hi Tiffany, it's kind of strange.  I have a cablecard not a box.  I contacted support and we reset the cablecard and the problem still persist.  Since it doesn't affect any of the channels we view we will just let it slide for now.  Like I said it kind of comes and goes.  Another symptom is for example if I punch in 939 I have a MC39 just below it and a no signal statement.

If you can come up with anything else let me know it's just fun trying to solve this little things.  TX Tomzee

Since April, certain channels in Omaha have been on a 'switched digital' system. They are only broadcast if a cable box or compatible tuner in the area sends a request to the system to start sending them down the line, so you may be able to tune them in if they happen to be switched on already but much of the time an SDV channel will be dark when you turn to it unless you have an add-on device called a tuning adapter to tune it in.

I'm not showing a tuning adapter on your account right now, but there is no additional charge for them. If your CableCard is installed in a compatible device such as a TiVo, InfiniTV, etc., then you can pick up a tuning adapter and self-install kit at a Solutions Store or we can ship one to you.

However, the Music Choice channels are not on a switched digital channel, so you should be able to turn to those at any time, unless there is a signal issue or your device requires some kind of update. It looks like we already refreshed the CableCard as much as we can, so your device may have some menu option to re-scan channels or reload the channel map.

KipK sorry for the delay in my rsvp, Holidays and all.  Thank you for following up on my request for info and looking into the actions already taken.  I guess I'll try the tuning adapter route I remember reading about this last spring.  Thanks again.
