Channel Lineup

Has anyone else signed up for COX television service only to realize they weren't going to receive all the channels they thought?  I recently signed up for COX Advanced TV.  I selected this package based on the channel lineup for my area, available on the COX website.  After they connected my service, I notice there were several channels missing.  I would get a message that said 'subscription required' or something similar.  I double-checked the channel lineup on the COX website then called Tech Support.  I was told repeatedly that the channels I was missing weren't part of the Advanced TV package (even though the website clearly says they are).  They offered to add them as part of an extra-cost pack.  I believe this is very deceptive and I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience.

Sure would be nice if you gave the names of the channels in question.

Hello TiffanyR.

Thanks, but I was on with your Tech Support for about two hours yesterday morning and we got absolutely nowhere.  They insisted the channel list they were seeing for my area didn't include the channels I was missing.  However, I just checked the Advanced TV channel lineup for my area this morning and it still does include these channels (Examples: H2, Destination America, Biography, BBC America, and many others).  Apparently, the list available to your Tech Support is different than what customers (and potential customers) are able to see.  I offered repeatedly to send screenshots of what I was seeing to your Tech Support people, but they declined.  They just kept offering to add them at an additional charge.  This is the link, but without knowing where I am located, I don't think it will be of much use to you. http://ww2.cox.com/residential/tv/channel-lineup.cox

Thanks.

Thanks Domino.

I appreciate your response, but you're trying to make my question more specific than it was intended to be.  I am not asking if other Cox customers ordered the Advanced TV package in Pittsburg KS expecting to get X, Y, and Z channels only to realize they weren't going to receive X, Y and Z channels after their service was connected. My fault for not making that clear.

My question is more general.  Have other Cox customers ordered any TV package but were later disappointed when they realized they weren't getting channels they expected to receive?

I prefer to think this is an honest mistake on the part of Cox, but I would like to know if other Cox customers have had an experience similar to mine.

Thanks again

Thanks again TiffanyR.

The channel lineup isn't confusing.  I am a fairly bright person and I am able to understand simple lists.  It is very clear that there are check marks next to the channels I am missing, for the package I am receiving.

I am (now) aware of the pdf - your Tech Support people brought it to my attention.  The problem is that the pdf doesn't match the other version of the channel lineup - which is the first one you see when you go to the website.  Honestly, I never even noticed the link for the pdf until your tech people pointed it out.  My problem is that I based my purchase decision on the channel lineup I was directed to at the time - the same channel lineup that is available today.  If that isn't accurate and only the well-hidden pdf is accurate, I believe that is a little deceptive (or maybe more than a little).

At this point, I realize Cox isn't going to do anything about this situation.  I am more interested if other Cox customers have had a similar problem so I have a better idea of how to proceed.

Thanks TiffanyR.

I'm not sure "confusion" is the word I would use in this case - I am in no way confused - but thank you for again making it my problem instead of Cox's problem.

I do appreciate you confirming that I am not imagining or seeing things that don't exist, as your tech people implied.  Oh, and the HD channels are the only ones I'm concerned about.  I don't watch the SD channels anyway.

Once again, I believe this is very deceptive.  I signed up for COX television thinking I was going to receive an acceptable selection of channels.  What I'm actually receiving is significantly less than what I was getting from the satellite provider I was using before, while paying slightly more.  Unfortunately, I've already cancelled that service and returned the equipment.  I never liked their service (very unreliable in bad weather) but I also never felt like I was deceived at any point.

I forget - dissatisfied customers tell how many people about their experience? The real trick there is knowing the right people to tell.

Thank you again TiffanyR.
