I spend the past few weeks reviewing the correspondence in the Cox TV Forum, which I must say is a great resource offered by Cox, to try and help me understand how this change over to Digital TV will affect my 3 TV set-ups. After reviewing numerous threads (I think that’s what you call them?) I thought it best to provide you with each of my TV set-ups and ask my specific questions as it related to each. FYI - I am a senior citizen (old fart not tech savvy), reside in Phoenix, AZ and subscribe to Cox Advanced TV Preferred. My apologies in advance if this is too much information but thought it may help you when responding to my questions.
TV #1 – Panasonic 50” flat screen – connected to Cox Advanced TV HD Receiver (Cisco Explorer 4642 HDC) – connected to Sherwood Newcastle Audio/Video Receiver R-771 + Sony HDMI DVD and use a Universal Remote Control MX-900.
TV #2 – Magnavox 15” flat screen – connected to Cox Advanced TV HD DVR Receiver (Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8240 HDC) and use Cox 8820 Cisco remote control.
TV#3 – Toshiba 31” flat screen – connected directly to cable (no box) – connected to Sony HDMI DVD.
QUESTIONS:
TV #1 and TV #2
TV #3

"Will these set-ups (as is) work when the Digital TV change over occurs as it works currently?"
Yes. You may see some channels move around, but nothing will change.
"Will I still be able to use the URC MX-900 for TV #1 as I am now using it (TV on/off, volume, channel selection, etc and DVD and Radio)?"
Yes. There will be NO changes to any TV that already has a box.
"Will I still get all the same channels as I now have with Cox Advance TV Preferred subscription?"
Yes.
"If I get Mini Box will I still get all the same channels as I now have with Cox Advance TV Preferred subscription?"
No. Mini box is for CATV replacement. It is for TV Starter and TV Essential. See here to compare Essential with Preferred to see which channels you will be able to see on mini box.

"TV#3 – Toshiba 31” flat screen – connected directly to cable (no box) – connected to Sony HDMI DVD."
DVD connection setup probably will have problems because of minibox. Ask Technowhelp for the (complicated) solution.

As long as the Toshiba has at least 2 hdmi inputs, I don't know why there will be a problem connecting a minibox.

I think that COX should NOT charge for the mini boxes!!!! Come one we are paying you over $200 a month and all you want is MORE!
I think everyone should file a complainant with the FCC....

Of course you are correct, AllenP. I misread that it was a DVD Recorder.

Not everyone is paying over 200$. The FCC are the ones who allowed it so complaining is pointless. As per FCC:
"If you currently rely on unencrypted cable service to receive broadcast channels from your cable operator (i.e., your digital television connects directly to the cable system without the addition of a set-top box or CableCARD), you will need a set-top box or CableCARD to continue to view those channels."
And there are mandated price discounts.
