Cannot configure cox email account with Android's email app (JB)

I am a new user of Sony Xperia P.  I tried too set up my cox email with their email App, but failed.  I followed the instructions provided by Cox, but the message "username or password is wrong" came up.  I was using right username/password. I did not have a problem to set up Yahoo and Google accounts with the same App.  Someone please help.

XperiaP,

We can reset your Cox user name and password if necessary however from your post it appears the email address and it's access are not the issue as your log-in works with your Yahoo & Google accounts.

While we do not provide support for your Xperia directly, the following are the set up instructions for that device. If you continue to experience issues with that set-up, we would suggest contacting the manufacturer.

Set up Google email account

  1. From the Home screen, press Menu.
  2. Tap Settings & Online service accounts & Google.
  3. Follow the instructions provided if you need to set up a new Google account, or just enter your Google user name and password to sign in using an existing account.
  4. Your phone will now be ready to use with all Google services.

Set up POP3/IMAP email

  1. From the Home screen, tap the applications bar
  2. Select Email and then next.
  3. Enter your email address and password in the boxes provided. Tap next.
  4. If the phone cannot download your email account settings automatically, tap Edit details & Manual setup and enter the account settings manually. Tap Next.
  5. Enter an account name and the name you want displayed on outgoing messages. Tap Done.
  6. Your email account should be ready to send and receive emails.

Please make sure you are using the following pop and smtp in your set up:

pop.cox.net for incoming
smtp.cox.net for outgoing

Please do not reset username/password because everything but this configuration with Android App works fine.  The instructions (POP3?IMAP) did not work.

Our email system is POP3, no IMAP support at this time.  We have seen in rare cases in the past with some devices where the built-in email client simply does not work with our email service.  One possibility is to try using an alternate email client, many of which are available in the Google Play store.  I recall some people with this issue having success with K-9 or KMail which I just checked and both of which are still free.
