Can i use my DVR to store songs (Cisco9865-Record6)?

On the Music Channels, i can hit Record as soon as a song starts to play.  How can i stop the recording when the song ends? Would changing the channel stop the recording. The DVR offers 50 hours of storage.  It seems like i could store hundreds of my favorite songs.   They wouldn't be labeled but that's ok.  I would lose a few seconds of the beginnings of the songs as i waited to hit the Record button but that's ok.

I want to turn my DVR into an iPod-iTunes alternative.

I can't say I've ever tried this or seen anybody else try this either however if the record button works you could try the stop button to see if that stops recording.

Interesting. It might be possible with a manual recording. The only thing is, you wouldn't be able to bring it with you since it would need a active Cox cable signal to work. You will have to set each recording for 30min or what ever time you choose. Since all the songs for all the Music channels are in the guide just as genre (not show names) the DVR has no way to auto program itself.  See page 41-42 of manual for how to set a manual recording.

Chris, thanks for your response. I will try the Square button ( i think that's the one you are calling STOP).  But i think that takes me to a 2nd screen with choices ..... none of which are to stop the recording and store it.   That's why i wondered if changing the channel might instantly stop the recording.

Health Edge, the manual recording is something i use occasionally. But it won't work for my idea of only storing songs i want to hear. Unless Cox starts posting the exact songs and exact times that they will appear on my tv.  Keep thinking of a solution; i enjoy all of your posts here on the forum.

Thats the thing, Cox doesnt control that, MusicChoice does. Musicchoice doesn't broadcast ahead of time what songs they are going to be playing, so there would be no way to incorporate it into the guide. And without the song data being in the guide, there is no way to program the DVR to stop after a song, because the DVR has no idea when the songs stop and start. It would be like trying to program the DVR to only record the touchdowns during a football game.

Maybe if I understood your plans for the DVR I might be able to think of a better solution. Maybe you could stream the music some how via http://www.musicchoice.com/ ?

I got it to work.  I have the Music Channel on during the day. When one of my favorites comes on, i hit Record.  When the song ends, i hit the button with a ■  (Chris calls it the Stop button).  The next screen gives me the choice to "Stop Recording And Save".  I choose that.  Since the Record 6 DVR holds 50 hours, i could save a lot of my favorite music.  Don't know how successful this is going to be, but it's fun to try.
