Caller ID on incoming call

I purchased a tracfone and upon activation it was assigned phone number ##########.  When I call my Cox home phone from this cell phone, the caller ID shows the name ***** ****.  I have done test calls to other people, both their home land lines and cell phones and this name does not show, only the phone number.  Tracfone support suggested Cox may have this name associated with my cell phone number within their system.  Can you give me any advice?

I can confirm that we don't own that number and have never owned that number (the NPA-NXX [area code and prefix] are owned by a wireless company, it has never been ported in to us, and the ZIP code of the listed owner is out of our service area), so we have no special CNAM (calling name display) record for it in our switching system.

We are pulling the central record from the Line Information DataBase, or LIDB, the shared database of Caller ID information that all phone carriers use. Companies that show only the number on their Caller ID may not be pulling the latest LIDB record or may have their own proprietary systems. Since we don't own the number, it would be up to the current owner of the number to update the LIDB.

I saw this happen several times when I was on the phones in tech support, that another carrier wanted to pass the buck to us when they didn't know how to update the LIDB or didn't want to bother, but we have zero control over this. Tracfone support has to fix it. Sorry.
