Cable Box question.

Hi, I just bought a VCR/DVD combo. It says it is tuneless in the guid and thta i would need a cable box to operate it. Wil this work to get my VCR/DVD operating? I was told that cable box runs 8.50 per month and want to insure it will work before I have cox send me one.
