box fan loud/cycling

Our cable box has a fan that runs loud at times and the box is pretty warm on top. The fan runs loud, then cycles, runs low, then loud again. Is this normal or do we need to call for a replacement?

The DCT6416 DVR has a very noisy HDD. Are you sure it's the fan?

I called, went into a Cox store and picked up a new one. So far it's pretty quiet. Thanks for your attempt to help!

You picked up a new what? Fan, or DVR? If the latter, we'll never know whether the old DVR had a noisy fan or noisy HDD. Oh well...

Sorry, I picked up a whole new DVR. I was worried about the heat that was coming from it, plus the noise was significant enough to bother us at night. It was easier to take it in and get a new one. Thank you again for your responses.
