Blocked emails from gmail accounts
I have been a cox customer for 17 years. Over the past month, I have not been receiving email messages from gmail users. I contacted cox customer service and was informed that this is intentional and that gmail has been sending too much spam so cox is blocking the emails addressed to multiple recipients. She was not helpful at all and suggested I let gmail know. There is not much gmail can do if people are creating accounts and sending spam from them. How about all of the accounts that are sending critical information and not spam.
I am beyond unhappy with this, as my children's coaches, various nonprofit associations, etc. all have gmail accounts and send email to a multiple recipient list. I question how cox has the discretion to block MY emails. If my account is getting spammed that is my business. Right now, I am struggling trying to stay in the loop since I am not receiving my emails. This is a terrible practice and after 17 years, I am considering dropping cox for all of my services because of this poor business decision.

Have you tried sending your Cox email a test email from a Gmail account? If so, does it bounce back with a error? Any difference if you send the Gmail from their webpage vs a email client?
I just send myself a test email from Gmail to Cox and it went through without a issue so there isn't a general block. One that that has recently changes is they are pushing TLS for all SMTP. Not all email providers are working with them though, see here for which one support.

It is only affecting multiple recipient emails and I have tested it and it bounces back every time.

You are not alone. The same thing has been happening to me and other people:
http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/internet_forum/f/5/t/15910.aspx
http://forums.cox.com/forum_home/internet_forum/f/5/t/15932.aspx
I also contacted cox support and had an experience that was very similar to yours. The person I talked to was not helpful at all and extremely unsympathetic. Additionally, no one from cox has replied to the complaints people have posted in this forum. Like you I am also unhappy with cox over this and am considering dropping them.
As far as I can tell, the only solution is to not use a cox email account for group emails -- use gmail instead.

I am having the same problem but it is also happening when sending to only 1 person and without any attached documents. Cox says the receiving email addresses have to send an email to thisisnotspam@cox.net and provide the address to unblock. Cox says it's gmails fault as they've changed their servers but I think it's cox's fault. I don't have this issue with any other server.

Same problem here. My kids homeschool and we are missing many homework emails from teachers. Considering switching to Gmail accounts. Been a Cox customer for nearly 20 years and this is unacceptable. Was told the same thing from a Cox rep, that they were intentionally blocking gmail addresses at certain times because of high spamming. They said that it was a temporary thing and that those emails sent to us should eventually come through but they never do. one minute I can get an email from a gmail address and the next minute I can't.
Here is a forwarded email that the gmail sender received after an email they sent to me was returned to them:
This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification
THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.
Delivery to the following recipient has been delayed:
XXXXX@cox.net
Message will be retried for 1 more day(s)
Technical details of temporary failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain cox.net by mx.west.cox.net. [68.6.19.3].
The error that the other server returned was:
452 4.1.0 Message threshold exceeded

I can take those headers from the Gmail sender and forward that information to our escalation team to find out why those messages are being rejected. Please email us with the account information and copy and paste the header and any other headers you may have into the email. Send to cox.help@cox.com so we can investigate.

Copied all technical information for dropped email should be received from gmail to COX email.
So far nobody responded. This email coming from one person, not SPAM or advertisement.
Gmail repeatedly sends or tries to send email, but getting blocked. Wondering what could have happened.

Hi Unhappy 100
Thank you for this post. It would seem that many email companies are starting to do things like this. A bit too "Big Brother" for my tastes We are not 5 years old, and we can decide, for ourselves what we do and do not wish to recieve.
I am one of the organizations that you mentioned above - I teach music to children. I have 25 music classes a week. Suddenly, I am not able to send scheduling reminders, Classroom updates, Test study hints and other vital information to my students and their families who use cox.net email. This is ridiculous. I have sent all of my "cox.net students" a link to this thread and asked them to contact cox and complain.
Thank you again!

This is exactly my problem. I use a personal gmail account and am the team communicator for my child's soccer team as well as for the high school athletic booster club. None of the parents with cox.net accounts are receiving my communications any longer. For the soccer parents I could give them some instructions on paper if I needed to have them go into their cox.net account and unblock my address but for the high school booster club parents, the only contact information I have is their email addresses. I can't exactly email them to tell them they aren't receiving my emails. For the soccer team I have one parent who can't receive my emails even if I send to her only and not in a group - neither way does she receive anything from me.
Cox needs some place where I can go to enter my gmail as a legitimate address and prove I'm real so that it will be unblocked for everyone. I see this as backlash from Cox (a paid provider) against a free service that is their competition. Of all the domains that I send emails to Cox.net is the one that repeatedly has bounced back and undelivered email. If something is returned to me it is always cox.net. It's either a full inbox, undeliverable, delivery errors or some other excuse as to why it's not delivered. Sometimes the message says they'll try again over the next 50 hours and I get repeat bounce backs letting me know they'll try again. Drives me crazy and floods my inbox. Don't tell me - tell YOUR customers that there is email waiting for them that can't get through.
Whenever I get a chance I tell anyone who will listen not to use cox email because it's the worst. Sadly your customers don't know what they aren't getting. Some of it is certainly important and causes your paying customers damages of various sorts. Shame on you.

If you're still experiencing this problem can you post the reject message you're getting so we can check to see what the problem may be?
