Audio sync problems

I have a Cox Explorer 8300HD box, and I just moved here from Little Rock AFB.  I am renting an apartment with my cousin, who is actually the person that owns the contract.  Before I moved here, I had DirecTV, and I never had these problems.  When I first turn on the box, everything is great, however it will deteriorate with the audio sync rather quickly.  I would see a sports analyst's lips move, but the words won't come out until a second or so later.  If I turn the box off for 5-10 seconds and turn it back on, it's normal again, repeat and rinse with the same problem.  Is this problem the box?  Or is it just the way this service is?  I find it EXTREMELY annoying.  I know it's not my surround sound set up, because I don't have this problem on Netflix or any other service, to include my PS4.  I never had this problem with DirecTV either.  Do I need to go to Cox and get a new HD Box?  Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Gadzod,

Before changing out the receiver, I suggest changing the HDMI cable. If the issue continues, please tell me the HDMI version you have and your TV manufacture and model number.

I've tried 3 different HDMI cables.  I used these two

As Well as the HDMI cable that came with the PS4.  It still does the same thing.  As for the TV's, I had one, it had the problem and bought a new one and same thing.  The two TV's are the following.

I only have 1 box.  Like I said, I've tried 3 different HDMI cables and the same results.

Plug the HDMI from the 8300HD directly into the TV. Problem go away?

No it has not improved.  During live tv, this is a problem, but not during a DVR recording.

Did you set your TV to Game mode?  Game mode removes any audio-video delay while playing video games; however, if Game mode is left on while watching TV, it could cause a sync issue.

It wasn't on any type of game mode.

If you're splitting the signal to different components, such as an audio-video receiver and TV or DVR, you could experiment with the Delay setting on the audio-video receiver.

If that's doesn't work, I'd swap the box.  I don't know what Cox does to "bench check" their equipment, but they've issued me some blatant clunkers, such as fried HDMI connectors.  There may be a processing issue with your cable box.

Yeah, the Cable Box goes straight into the TV via HDMI.  I think I'm just going to swap the cable box when I get back from deployment (I'm about to leave).  It's not practical to be dealing with it now that I'm about to leave soon.

Any time you're ready feel free to exchange the box.  Stay safe on your deployment.

Hi JimWilson107,

Are you experiencing the issue while watching live TV?  Also, do you have DVR service, and if so do you notice the issue with recorded shows?

We started having the same issue last night watching Project Runway on lifetime on demand. Audio was running several seconds ahead of video. It started out in sync and then quickly got out of sync. I switched to my Apple TV box, same episode and no issues. Watched 2 other issues on the Apple TV box no issues. Went back to the cox on demand, problem started again. What's up?

Hi KenO,

Have you noticed the same audio issues while watching other programs On Demand?  Please try disconnecting the power cord from the receiver, then remove the coax line from the box for about two minutes.  Reconnect the coax then the power cord and see if the problem persists.
