ARC stops working after upgrade from 2 channel to 6 channel DVR

I just upgraded from a two channel whole house DVR to the 6 channel version. With this change, the ARC (Audio Return Channel) connections between my Elite 70" TV and my Yamaha processor stopped working. Both DVR's were connected to the same HDMI plug on the TV, and the TV ARC plug was connected to the Yamaha receiver. With the old DVR, if I was watching TV and turned on the receiver, the TV sound was disabled and sound was through the Yamaha receiver's surround system. Switching off the receiver returned the sound to the TV. With the new DVR, the first time I turned on the receiver while watching TV, I lost the TV sound and got no sound through the receiver. After powering down all components, I got TV sound back. Since then, Turning on the receiver while watching TV has no effect on the sound, it stays with the TV. I have verified that ARC is enabled in the receiver and the TV. My Blu Ray player is connected to the receiver. With the previous DVR plugged in to the TV and the receiver turned on. turning on the Blu Ray player switched the receiver to that input, and switched the TV its HDMI input from the receiver (the ARC) capable plug. With the new DVR plugged in, this automatic switching no longer works. Unplugging the DVR from the TV restores this functionality. There seems to be no ARC related settings in the DVR. It would seem that the "newer and better" DVR does not have ARC capability, or has in incorrect implementation. This is an inconvenience when watching blu rays, and a loss of surround sound capability when using the DVR. I will probably try a bi-directional HDMI 1.4 switch to switch the DVR connection from TV to receiver when I want surround sound from the DVR, but this requires an addition HDMI cable to the receiver (a long run in my installation) Any suggestions?

Can you verify the model of the TV and the Yamaha receiver?

Remember, a device need not support all of a version's features. Ver 1.4 added 3D capability, Ethernet capabilities, 4K support, besides ARC. Cisco mentions 3D and Ethernet in its 98xx brochures, but not ARC.

The TV in this post is a Sharp Elite Pro70X5FD 70" LED set about a year old. The receiver is a Yamaha RX-A2020 also fairly new. The Blu ray players area fairly new Panasonic 3d player and a couple of year old Panasonic blu ray/VHS combo player. Internet research suggests that this may be caused by the CEC implementation in the new Cisco 6 channel DVR. I have ordered a HDMI connector which eliminates the CEC pin which I understand may restore the functionality to my other components. The company I ordered from told me that they are backordered because a Canadian cable company had issues with new equipment and ordered a bunch of these. So to be clear, your going Cisco 6tuner DVR > Yamaha RX-A2020 > Sharp Elite Pro70X5FD and your using HDMI 1?

If so, maybe try re-adding the new DVR via the HDMI device selection on page 65 of manual. Does it show the DVR? Can you get into Link CTRL?

I mis stated the problem. What has stopped working is CEC. The DVR is connected to HDMI2 on the TV. The receiver output is connected to HDMI1 on the TV (the ARC capable plug). The blu ray players are connected to the receiver. Prior to installing the new DVR, If I turned on a blu ray player, the receiver switched to its appropriate input and the TV switched to HDMI1 to get the feed from the receiver. If I was watching TV through the cable box using the TV speakers and I turned on the receiver, TV sound was turned off and sound was produced through the Receiver using ARC. With the 6 channel DVR all this functionality is lost.. Unplugging the DVR from the receiver re-establishes CEC switching. The new DVR also interferes with the CEC operations between the other components if it is connected to an HDMI port on the receiver instead of to the TV. There appears to be a problem with CEC implementation in the 6 channel DVR.

Can't you use HDMI device selection to tell the TV to ignore CEC commands from the DVR? 

"If multiple HDMI devices are connected in a daisy

chain, you can specify which device to control here."

That way it doesn't interfere with the with any of the Link control/CEC but you can still use the video output of the DVR?

Now that you're saying that it is a CEC - not ARC - problem, a cheaper solution might be:

Thanks . I preferred the Lindy adaptor because it works with an HDMI cable of a length that I choose. This cable is 25 cm long so I will need to use a connector and another cable to reach where it needs to go. But, this is available, the Lindy is back-ordered. I ordered one of these cables until I find something I like better.
