Anybody else having trouble with new Mini box highlighting shows on different stations?

I'm trying to use the guide on the Mini box, and highlight something at 9 PM,, then another channel at 10 PM. If I use the select button it just exits the guide,, without highlightin anything. Any solution?

I wasn't getting  any response so I've contacted Evolution directly.  They explained that the box was made to Cox communications specifications. The function of being able to  highlight 1 or more  shows within the Guide, to have your DVR or  other unit tape the shows, is not a function.

I was told it would take more memory   than the unit was designed for. I'm going to start  looking into DirecTV or  another option.  This mini box idea is backward technology.

Hi Planet Visit,

Prior to this behavior, was the remote programmed for the TV? Are you able to change channels, adjust volume, and turn the TV on and off with the remote?

The select button selects a channel for viewing, the arrow keys around the select button are used to change the program highlighted.  Just remember, this is a Minibox tuner, not a DVR.  Even if you highlight a show an hour in advance, all the select button will do is change to that channel immediately, not an hour in the future.

Becky, thanks for responding, but no I didn't even try to get that far. I just wanted to learn the functions of the Mini box. So I looked at the guide, scroll up and down, left and right, then tried to highlight a program later that evening.

Also,  I realize this is not a DVR, but This is the function that my regular set-top box from Cox cable has, but I guess I am learning this one does not. Is that right?

Cox Mini box Evolution DMS2344UHDS kit #N00011. I've heard that's what most people have, I was just trying to see if anyone could highlight the station, then highlight a separate station for later recording with my DVR. Thanks

Hi Planet Visit,

The User's Manual for the mini box can be found at http://media.cox.com/support/print_media/tv/general/cox-mini_user-guide.pdf.

Are you referring to a retail DVR such as a TiVo? A mini box is not required for compatible devices with Cox CableCARDs.

The minibox does not have any scheduling function.  You can just display the guide and immediately switch channels.

the box is not a replacement for the regular boxes they allow cox to shutoff analog while the analog only customers now use these boxes.

wees41, I agree with you that it's not a replacement for regular STBs.  But it's not just for "analog only customers".  Many Advanced TV customers use a minibox on secondary sets where they were connected direct to the cable.  The direct cable connection provided local stations in ClearQAM HD, not only the analog stations.  Those ClearQAM channels went the way of the dodo once Cox started encrypting them.

I'm not going to beat the dead horse much longer, but  I agree, sure it's not "complete  desktop cable box", they want to withhold multiple functions, so you are forced to pay more for  Those.

Contacting Evolution, the company that made the box, the guy informed me right out front they just put the functions on the box that Cox wanted-nothing more. He intimated  it would've been a fairly simple process to add 1 or 2 more functions, but this is the way it's going.

There is NO cable box made at ANY cost that allows you to highlight a program for future recording by a SEPARATE DVR. None.

Maybe we are getting our wires crossed here. Don't you have the original set top cable box that Cox provided? The one that they charge roughly $8/Monthly? That box, can highlight multiple channels and multiple different times. That is just one example. There are others.

Hi Planet Visit,

The mini box was designed with minimal features in order to keep the costs as low as possible for our customers. Folks looking for more functionality still have the option to rent a DVR, an HD receiver, or a CableCARD.

I have a DVR (8642HDC.) It can be programmed for multiple times using its internal tuner. The mini-box is NOT a DVR (as you have been told.) Like all other non-DVR STBs, it cannot do what you describe. BTW, please use model numbers instead of vague descriptions such as "... the original set top cable box that Cox provided."
