Hi speed drops,

That really should not be happening, and that's something we need to look into.  Has the modem been reset recently?  I am curious as to what the speeds would be after a reset during the time that it is not functioning properly.  Please email us at cox.help@cox.com with the account information - name and address.  We'll look into this for you!

Hello JasonCable,

We can troubleshoot the issue you're having as well.  We can do some basic troubleshooting steps here and I would also like to bring up the account and look at the modem signal levels.  Can you email us at cox.help@cox.com with your account information?  Thanks!

Hi speed drops,

I agree that is odd.  This sounds a little odd to say, but I wish the issue would happen during normal hours when we could schedule a tech to come out.  Replacing the modem didn't correct it so it would have to be something else causing the slow down.  This happens every night?  We may need to have a Field Tech escalate this to our Maintenance team to come out and investigate.

yes it happens every night. I would love to understand whats going on, as I have intermediate knowledge of networks and computers. I have been trouble shooting this for a couple months now, and I feel as if its a cox issue. Im going to test the internet speed tonight, and post my results.

its 7:52 PM and I did my internet speed check on cox.net, and im at 5.71mbps. amazing it goes from 70+ mbps during the morning and afternoon ,and in the evening it goes down to such a low speed. why does the speed change so much only during the peek hours at night? every single night. would the maintenance team be able to help me with this issue?

At this point it may be necessary to arrange for a technician to come out and troubleshoot further.  The technician can do some speed tests at the modem and make any necessary adjustments to the equipment or wiring.  If the issue is found to be something at the tap or beyond he/she would escalate the issue to our maintenance team for follow up.

@chrisl How can I arrange to have my connection tested again? It happens every night. Its 9:00 pm and Im 7 mbps download and 3mbps upload. 17 ms ping. My connection was over 80 all day and afternoon up until about 7pm. At 7pm it started to slow. Its unusable after 8pm for streaming and any gaming I may want to do (and that's the only time of the day I really want to do that ). Is there someone I can call or do I just go through the normal phone call to cox , have a random tech come out and they test everything and say its not there problem? If the tech comes before 7pm it will be a nice fast speed. What are my options :) Thank you for your time.

I have been having your same issue for the past year.  I have had techs come out and test my lines, I have replaced my router more than once.  I have replaced the modem as well.  There are numerous posts with people across the country with this same issue.  For some reason, Cox slows down your connection at night.  For me it starts at 9pm and goes to 2am.  There is another post in this forum with a guy from Kansas experiencing the same issue and another from Atlanta with the same issue.  I am from San Diego.

They can send all the techs they want and run all the tests they want, they will not find a solution.  Why? I don't know.  You are better off switching to a lower tier so they don't ream you every month, wait for a competitor to spring up in your area (Google Fiber) and you will have two options at that point:

1.  Watch your internet issue magically disappear.

2.  Jump ship as soon as you can and switch to the newer provider.

Yes I have tried everything. Centurly link is in Las Vegas with their fiber program. However, its not available in my neighborhood yet. Google fiber is years away im sure as they will be adding approximately 600,000 household per yer to their network. Its a very expensive procedure. I am frustrated with all the technology today that requires high bandwith, and our options are so limited. Its a matter of time . Technology is growing so fast . Thanks for your input to this matter. I am going to lower my tier now that your mention it. Only makes sense, When I have friends over in the evening we cannot use any streaming features , i.e. apple tv, Netflix etc due to my 3-6mbps speeds at night. Its embarrassing actually. Im also an IT tech so im somewhat knowledgeable on troubleshooting such problems. Its cox, not anything in my home.
