Hi. So I've posted in the thread about Premier speeds hoping it was a case of needing a code applied or needing to update to new firmware causing my issue of low speeds, but I was told there that all of that seems fine.
Here are some speed tests from Cox's speed tool I started doing yesterday:
Wed Oct 23 05:15 PM Yes 2 Mbps 0 Mbps 44 millisec 68.6.182.105 San Diego
Wed Oct 23 05:02 PM Yes 5 Mbps 5 Mbps 41 millisec 68.6.182.105 San Diego
Wed Oct 23 02:43 AM Yes 15 Mbps 16 Mbps 33 millisec 68.6.182.105 San Diego
Tue Oct 22 10:58 PM Yes 9 Mbps 4 Mbps 38 millisec 68.6.182.105 San Diego
I am a Premier customer so I'm supposed to have 50 down, correct? As you can see I'm nowhere near that at the moment.
I'm using a Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 Gateway. I was told in the other thread all my stats seem fine. I'm using only the router in the modem itself for my wi-fi service and I don't have a way to reach the modem with a cable with my computer so I haven't been able to test that. I'm pretty sure even with wi-fi degrading a connection it shouldn't cut 50 down to 6, right? I've reset the modem using the setup page, and I've also manually unplugged the modem itself and then plugged it back in and I've noticed no change. Due to the notifications about my service being upgraded to higher speed, it's made me take a look at what my speeds currently are and I'm realizing I have a problem here.
Any ideas? I'm in the Oceanside/Vista area of San Diego county. is there any construction or anything going on that might affect me? I got a pop-up from Cox about upgrades a week or two ago, and I got another one this week telling me more service was being performed starting on I believe Tuesday. I'm not sure what it's related to but I keep hoping once it's finished, I'll finally get the speeds I'm supposed to. Thanks for any feedback or information regarding this.

hey there, thanks for the response!
I rummaged around my house trying to find a cable today, and I was able to plug an old laptop into the modem directly. the result of the speed test is 68/25! now, I had to use speed test.net instead of cox's speed test due to the fact it told me I had used up my limit of tests. I spent last night testing each channel to see if channel on the wi-fi would make a difference. the fact it gets up that high at all in this speed test tells me the modem is indeed working all right though. (can't confirm that until cox's test is available to me again)
my question is, why would the wi-fi be this bad on two devices? I did some tweaking last night with channels as I said, and at the time I was able to seemingly get it to improve up to 18 down on my desktop, but nothing more than that. this was around midnight-1am last night.
the main users of the network are myself and one other person. the network is secured WPA2/AES. as of today wi-fi testing went like this:
laptop (this person often sits right next to where the modem is): 22/19
desktop (my computer in the room right next to where the modem is): 23/16 phone off wi-fi, 17/12 phone on wi-fi
my phone in my room: 44/13
after testing my phone I disabled wi-fi on it and re-tested my desktop but noticed only a small difference. I usually have my phone's wi-fi disabled and rely on network as it is. as for the book reader and game device, they don't need to constantly be using it so they're usually not turned on. not sure of a way to test speed with them anyway. I hope these 3 results are informative.
because it seems to work fine as a wired connection, I'm wondering what my options are. I can't feasibly wire the whole apartment myself and considering proximity to the modem doesn't make the wi-fi results any better I suppose moving it wouldn't help either. any ideas?

hey there, sorry for the time it took to respond --
after doing some network monitoring with inSSIDer and not noticing much difference after tweaking, I realized I seemed to be "capped" at a certain point. my phone isn't, so I realized it must be a limitation of something on my desktop. I looked into the differences between my phone and my desktop. one thing I hadn't checked was what type of wireless network my card supports. I was under the impression I had an up to date wireless card for the desktop, but it in fact supports only up to wireless G. my phone supports N, so after looking into the differences between G and N throughput, I decided to order a wireless adapter that supports N for my desktop hoping it'd solve the problem.
I'm happy to say it did solve the problem! I installed the new wireless N adapter today, and I am now seeing proper speeds :) thank you so much for the help! I feel a little silly but this was quite a learning experience.
