Why does Cox San Diego use Fiber to the node and copper for to the premises (last mile connection is copper) vs Fiber To The Premises like other broadband providers?

AT&T just ran fiber up to us will Cox be doing the same? Optical cable has increased bandwidth, transmits higher speeds, and has less noise vs copper.

Why did AT&T arbitrarily run fiber to your house?  Seems like a good "thang."  Why not subscribe to AT&T?

AT&T upgraded our neighborhood to fiber so we have fiber to the premises now. AT&T's poor customer service and reliability plus"fiber" to the premises is actually fiber to an ONT (optical network terminal) then copper from the ONT to a modem like the 5268AC Gateway.

  • Hello. Thanks for the suggestion. While we continue to upgrade our network, I am unaware of any plans to run fiber lines directly to the home at this time. -Allan Cox Support Forums Moderator.
