Contour to contour 2

I have a 6 DVR box but I am still on Contour. I would like to switch to contour 2 but I don't want to lose the programs I already have recorded. I am about 50% full. Is that possible

It is not possible to transfer recordings from one cable receiver to another. You will lose any current recordings when upgrading unfortunately.

That is crazy.  I did it for my father in law when he upgraded his DVR on Dish network.   Lousy service on Cox's part.

Does that also mean that I can't keep my existing DVR after I upgrade so that I can watch the programs I already have recorded while recording new programs to the new dvr?

@louie vig You will lose all recordings when upgrading since the new Contour service requires a different cable box. -Allan Cox Support Forums Moderator

How did you do it?

Dish has an app that does it for you.

Don’t blame Cox; blame High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP).

The recorded programs on your Contour-1 will only play on devices designed to display and not to record.

Even if there were data ports to transfer your programs, HDCP won't transfer encryption keys from device to device.
