I'm paying for a service that I'm basically unable to use until they get whatever contractor out here but with no definite install date presented I feel like I'm throwing money away.

What's a "power box"? You mean a amp? What are your modem's signal levels? But yea, downgrade until they can get what ever work done.

I'm guessing whatever they hook the main cable to in order to get the wire to the modem.
