MOCA & Unity Gain Amplifiers (UGA) and COX service

Does COX have network architecture plans, suggestions or recommendations when it comes to MOCA? More specifically, if they allow MOCA Unity Gain Amplifiers (UGA) on ones home network without it causing too much noise?

Julian, how is this a customer specific question? Why are you asking OP to email you? What account info would you need? Looking at your previous posts, it seems this is the only kind of post you make. Can you please be more helpful?

JulianN- like WiderMouthOpen i am not sure why you need my contact info??  At the present time I do not have any correspondence with COX about my question as I was hoping to get some feedback from the more experienced community and MOCA knowledgable

If you have ideas I can look into why or why not a UGA would be an issue with COX or noticeable on my network that would be great. Thanks!!

With mid split becoming more popular, you really shouldn't use a amp unless you have to. How many TV boxes do you have? What is your signal strength going into your house?

Thanks WiderMouthOpen .... I just have 2 TVs connects (plus an Xbox) that are all driven by my MOCA network so nothing too demanding on really. I pay for the 1Gb service but as we know with Cox, your mileage might vary depending on the day  😀

Your best bet is to go coax from outside > ground > MoCA filter > 2 way splitter splitter > 1 coax to modem and 1 coax to amp > everything else. That way you don't have to worry about the amp causing mid-split problems with your modem.

As for what amps work best with MoCA, that I am not familiar with since I have never used MoCA. The best person I can think to ask is a user I met on Reddit by the name of Plooger. I have since left Reddit, but I used to call him/her the MoCA King. If you belong to Reddit, I suggest posting on r/Homenetworking or send him/her a DM.

Thanks WiderMouthOpen !!  This is some good advice here that I will need to follow up on. My focus is to fine tune what I have vs build out or extend without COX jumping on me for sending too much noise back in their larger network. Basically, I want to get the most out of my MOCA with the most speed and consistency without attracting too much attention

Well the best way to do that would be to have 2 different coaxial loops in your house. One for your MoCA network and one for your Cox service. DOCSIS, the standard used to deliver service over coax to your modem, will be changing soon and will start using frequencies above 1000Mhz. That will cause all/most amps made today cause problems. For now, you can just use a MoCA filter on the input of the first splitter to stop the MoCA signal from getting out of the house and a filter on the modem(if you have service issues). See here for more info.
