E-mail Transition to Yahoo! is a Mess!
Received two e-mails about Cox's transition of my e-mail account to Yahoo. Last one received March 6th that included transition FAQs (very few). As I use Outlook to access my e-mail, I noted the statement that said if I use a third-party app to access my e-mail I'd receive a follow-on e-mail with instructions to reconfigure Outlook. Well today Outlook is being rejected by Cox servers, or lack of, and I don't have any instructions on configuring Outlook to access Yahoo! using POP. I've been in a chat with Cox for the last 45 minutes and the person on the other end is more confused than I am.
This is a VERY POOR roll-out.

Horrible. I was able to access my email via Yahoo sign in. Yahoo didn't even recognize my wife's email address so she is now without her primary email address😡We use Outlook as our 3rd part email app (and contacts and calendars) with both of us being familiar with Outlook after years in the corporate world. We are unable to link to Outlook even after removing and adding back as a new account! Android mail no longer working either. The coup de gras? Yahoo chat is an automated attendant and their customer service offering if you would like to speak with a person, is fee based! yjcmtsu If we weren't in a location where we have no alternative than Cox for internet, television & telephone we would have been long gone. Oh, and did they reduce the cost to shift the email burden onto the customer? NFW

YAHOO wants my driver's license number to help with my account transition. I asked the person helping me for their driver's license number /phone number and email address and real name before I give him mine... Crickets.. Big problem trying to use outlook 2016 with Yahoo. Not all of my subfolders made it.. CURSE cox for ruining my life! This really sucks. I'm looking for options!!

Have to agree. I also use Outlook and have multiple Cox email addresses under my single Outlook account. Could not get Google Chrome to work (for registering my first email address and then was able to get Edge to work. Then you have to go into Outlook settings for that email account and make the necessary changes for either IMAP or POP accounts. I use IMAP so they are here - https://help.yahoo.com/kb/imap-settings-sln4075.html
Finally got it working. Now I am having trouble setting up the next one in Yahoo. Says the account doesn't exist. All I can say is
Cox and your tech support is useless.🤬

Hey, Ric, I found a solution from a guy named TomSteele2 that finally resolved my transition problems. Wasted about 3 hours this morning messing with it before I found Tom. Tom's solution is very clear. See

Good luck.

I use Thunderbird and now can't bring in Yahoo. I tried to change the imap settings and password, etc. Nothing has worked. I have been with Cox since '11 and this is more than a simple annoyance.

i was able to access my cox email on yahoo yesterday. tried to log in today and get "password/username is in valid, please try again". kept trying no luck; tried to "forgot password" link only to get the lets verify you, they send me a sms with verification number, after i enter the number it says we sent a verification number to your email please enter it now.
I CANNOT ACCESS MY EMAIL THATS WHY I AM TRYING TO RESET MY PASSWORD.
call Cox and they cannot help as my account has been transitioned to yahoo.
call yahoo and i am waiting on hold.
i have been with cox for 20 years; only because i have no outer options; once MetroNet is in my area i am leaving cox like the steaming pile they are.

yes, VERY poor rollout. Yahoo email is the WORST choice out there for email. Why did they not give us a choice? The only thing yahoo email is used for is for spam anyway.

Agree -- can't access my incoming cox.net emails via Web, iphone or Outlook 365. Can send outgoing emails from Web and iphone but not Outlook 365 -- app doesn't even save "sent items." I've tried repairing account settings a million times, but the yahoo settings won't stick. Reluctant to delete former Outlook account and reset up since if Web email not receiving incoming messages, then problem is on Yahoo's end. Tried calling for support, spent hours waiting -- 2x -- only to get someone with very poor English skills, asking irrelevant questions (driver's license, names of my many Outlook folders/subfolders, etc.). After jumping through many unnecessary hoops w/o getting closer to solution, I had to hang up to use bathroom -- that's how long each call took! I suspect Yahoo wants to force everyone to use its email app, which probably has all sorts of privacy-invading/tracker features -- and doesn't have any of my Outlook contacts.

Success with POP servers finally on Apple Mail
I finally got my cox.net email to work with Apple Mail and sync. I generated an "app password" through the online yahoo webmail site and turned off two factor authentication.
Then I added an email address in Apple Mail, but did not use the Yahoo box, I used the box that is below that was just for adding a generic mail account.
Initially it will not work after a brief churn and will generate old cox settings, but then a box will open where you can change from imap to pop, and enter correct pop and smtp settings. (pop.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.....) plug in your "app password" --- "user name" was my cox.net email address, so that is entered in two places.....it worked

Same here. The follow up email never came and I can't access my email through an app even after changing the settings.

Success for me. After many frustrating weeks. Please follow this guide. You DO NOT have to delete your existing account and start fresh (and thereby potentially risking never recovering your emails on your own HD).
This is the link that helped me. The person made an easy to follow guide. Start with the with the SMTP and then IMAP.

The big piece missing in my failed attempts was making sure I was on OAuth2 for Authentication Method.
I even mirrored their "Yahoo! Mail SMTP m.w" for Description on the SMTP Server.
Seems to all be back to normal. Hopefully....
