Cox's New PW7, 4331 vs Arris DG2460

When I decide to upgrade, will probably look hard at the Netgear CAX80. Will make sure I get one that can be returned if after testing I find out it isn't what it's cracked up to be. Whatever I get will have a USB port so I can use a USB drive on it. Either that, or possible an Arris G36, or wait for the G54. Or Docsis 4

LOL. You and those combos. However DOCSIS 4.0 does interest me. Any mention of it at CES?

Wasn't able to make CES this year, maybe next year, but from what I know, d4.0 modems should become available in the first quarter of this year. Hope to hear more on it from some friends of mine though.

But back to your OP, are you downgrading your service? I assumed your current gateway was no longer compatible with the speed.

My discount plan was for 1 year, up on Feb 15th, so time to get a new plan. Same Internet, same phone service, bundled, Preferred HSI and phone service - 69$ a month. I am saving 10$ actually. HOWEVER, they shipped me the pano PW7 modem. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, seeing Technicolor had purchased Cisco home modems, the dpq3212 and such, BUT their WiFi, either due to their programming or antenna materials has ALWAYS been second and third rate. My modem is just fine up to 500 MB, it's a 24x8 channel modem, so it's gonna be good for 250 mbps, easily. When I HAVE to replace it though, well... It's still a tossup. 

That's actually not true. There are people with HUGE houses! Also, if it was true, then you are saying Netgear produced the ORBI to  sell it's mesh by using a less powerful wifi router? What about Google, and TPO link and the others? The pods actually fulfill a required need, people with really large homes require a mesh network. BUT, if the WiFi on the main router was in line with previous devices, then fewer people would need the pods. Also, the Pods are limited for use ONLY with those WiFi modems, so another reason I am not really for them. 

First, you assume everyone to have purchased the Pods live in really large, HUGE house.

No, I didn't assume anything, YOU did. What is was saying is, even IF the WiFi was on par with others, there would still be a need for the Pods.

I think pods, or any repeater for that matter, is a poor choice IMO. Either MoCA or run ethernet for AP or backhaul.

What had I assumed?  I'm basing my conclusion on what you had written about its weaker WiFi and you had also returned it.  Why didn't you just purchase some Pods?

I'm also basing my conclusion on the previous complaints from purchasers of the Pods even after their Pods are paired to the Panoramic with assumedly stronger WiFi.

I also didn't assume there is no need to extend the reach of a wireless router.  Of course this is a need.  However, why did Cox release a new Panoramic with a weaker radio?  To peddle their pods.

If there was a need for Pods for a Panoramic with a stronger WiFI, there definitely will be more of a need for a Panoramic with a weaker WiFI.
