Action Required to Improve Cox Email Security
I received an email titled "Action Required to Improve Your Cox Email Security". It was telling me that my accounts did not have the proper security settings and if I didn't make these changes to all my devices by Jan 25th, I would be locked out of my my email accounts. Question - is this legitimate? I was leery of clicking on any links embedded in an email and didn't see anything when I logged on to my cox.net account manually.
Thanks.

I tried acting on the requirement yesterday and totally screwed up my Outlook ability to send email. I tried an online chat with no successful outcome and I've done some digging on the Internet regarding Outlook settings. Nothing has solved my problem. Interestingly, when I exit Outlook and restart it, the settings mandated by Cox are gone and I'm back to the old settings. Still, attempts to send email remain stuck in my Outbox. Totally frustrating.

I got this email myself and am assuming that it's being sent to every Cox customer as I've already checked and confirmed that my email settings conform to the new standards.

I have Outlook 2016. The IMAP settings indicated by Cox for 1/24/2018 do not work, and Outlook 2016 will not retain these settings.
I called Microsoft support. They checked over my computer and indicated the settings to which Outlook reverts are the correct settings...
IN: 143/STARTTLS...OUT: 587/STARTTLS. These settings work and allow me to both send and receive email.
