wireless not working
I recently started using Cox high speed internet with a Cisco DPC3825 modem that I am renting from Cox. After the first day of setting up the modem the wifi was no longer being recognized by my laptop (an HP Pavilion dv6-1245dx Entertainment Notebook PC) but some of the lights in the middle of the modem would flash orange. The Ethernet connected internet works fine. How do I fix this problem?

Hi art123,
It sounds like the Cisco DPC3825 is functioning properly if you are able to get internet when plugged into it with an ethernet cable, we know at the very least internet signal is coming into the modem. When you try to connect wireless do you see other wireless networks that are around you? What is the name of your wireless network, and do you see it on the list? If you do not see any networks, it could be an issue with the wireless on the laptop being turned off or not functioning properly. You could also login to the router to verify that you have wireless enabled in the router settings so that it is broadcasting the network name allowing you to connect to it.

Yes I can see other wireless networks, just not the one from that modem(e7a954).

At this point it would be best to login to the router and verify that 1) the wireless is enabled so that your network will show up 2) also verify the SSID (name of the network) so that you are locating the correct one to connect to. Are you familiar with how to login to you router? If not, I can provide steps to walk you through logging in and verifying this information.

To login to the router you would perform the following steps:
1) open up a browser window (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari)
2) in the address bar up at the top (where you would type in the name of a website) type in 192.168.0.1 and press ENTER
3) this will bring you to a login page, do not type a username or password leave them blank, just click the login button
4) Once you are logged into the router, click on the word "Wireless" next to the word "Setup" across the top of the page
This will take you to the Basic Settings tab of the "Wireless" section of the router setup. On this page you will see the options to enable or disable the wireless, make sure the dot is next to "Enable." Below that you will see "Wireless Network Name (SSID)" the box below that shows the name of your network. That is what you should be looking for when you try to connect to your wireless network.
If you are unsure of your wireless password you can change that information while you are in here. Click on the "Wireless Security" tab next to the "Basic settings" tab. The Pre-Shared key field is where you would type in your password, it needs to be at least 8 characters.
