Why is Google Voice suddenly NOT working with COX?

After using COX for over 2 years for both internet & phone suddenly all the calls made to my Google Voice number are are NOT forwarded/routed to  our primary Cox phone number correctly, something that has worked perfect until now!

Issue: For the last 10 days ALL calls made to the Google voice number will forward to the Cox number which will ring once then 15 to 20 seconds later it will ring one or two more times and no matter how fast you are, answering the Cox phone just gives a dial tone.

Testing procedure #1:

1. Did reset cable modem
2. Did reset router
3. Removed and replaced Cox phone number from Google Voice
4. Cox ran test at their end including router reset
4. Cox removed voice-mail from Cox number - tested - and restored Cox voice-mail

Result: Same result - Calls made to the Google Voice number ring the Cox number once then 15 to 20 seconds later it will ring one or two more times.

Testing procedure #2:

1. Removed and replaced Cox phone number with a Cell number (Verizon) from Google Voice

Result: Google Voice forwards calls correctly, no issue however using the Cell phone is not an option!

I've removed the Cell phone from my Google Voice number and reattached my Cox number and have the same issue.

Note: Even though I'm unable to answer calls I still receive all voice-mail that is recorded.

I need this issue resolved immediately and having to post this to get the issue resolved is not a good business model.

Placing calls, using Google Voice, through my COX phone number continues to work perfectly well.

I moved my Google Voice number to my second Cox phone line and it worked perfectly.

Moved it back and it failed again. Now it wasn't an issue with Google.

Somehow selective forwarding was turned on and set for my Google Voice number. A closed loop!

*63 and follow the instructions if this happens to you.

Thanks for all the suggestions COX!

So just to be clear, it was a issue with selective forward on your google voice number? How was that not a issue with Google? Why are you blaming Cox?

To make this clear, somehow selective forwarding (*63 - *72 On - *72 Off) a feature of COX was turned on for my COX phone line and the forwarding number that was in-place was my Google Voice number.

This caused a loop since all calls placed to my Google Voice number were sent to my COX phone where they were redirected back to my Google Voice number. . .

This happened in the last 2 weeks and I had been using my COX phone and my Google Voice number almost 2 years without any problem.

A tech at COX was also pointing the finger at Google until, during our brain storming session, I suggested looking at the features available to my COX phone and when I heard "Selective Forwarding" I concluded the call and when I checked, I realized that it was the cause of the issue.

Selective forwarding is off and my phone is working correctly once again.

Hope this helps someone else. Case Closed
