Why doesn't Cox support 16x4 DOCSIS 3.0 modems?

It is strange to me that the MSO competition (although not in this market) has significantly faster HSI options than Cox, and currently support the newer 16x4 DOCSIS 3.0 modems. If Cox was serious about this whole "Gigablast" rollout by the end of 2016, then one would assume that this would be something of a priority for them. As a long time customer of Cox, I was disappointed to hear that the Netgear CM500 modem (16x4) was not on the approved list, but the Netgear CM400 (8x4) is. I planned to fork over whatever it cost to retrofit for this gigabit internet option, but after seeing that I would need to spend even more money in a year to probably not get a fraction of the advertised speed was disheartening. I wish we had TWC or Comcast as options here in the valley as I would change providers right now. This may sound like a rant and quite possibly is, but the only difference in hardware between the two modems is the amount of downstream channels they have. This is ultimately irrelevant since the ISP determines your internet speeds. The most frustrating part is that the approved modem which can handle half the speed of the non-approved one; is only $20 less than the better one. Thank you Cox for still finding a way to cost me more money....I hope Google Fiber or CenturyLink rollout before Cox does, because that is where my money will go.

16x4 Modem support,

We currently have two 16x4 cable modems ( Arris/Motorola SB6183 and Netgear Dual band WiFi modem C6300)  on our Approved Modems list. All modems on our list have been thoroughly tested before being approved.

I did see those modems and apologize if my rant seemed narrow. I was curious as to why the Netgear cm500 wasn't approved. I am sure that you do not have the answer for that, and I do understand. It was just weird to me that the previous SB6183 was approved and the CM500 was not. The cm500 has the same CableLabs certification as the cm400 and the cm 500 has the same DOCSIS 3.0 specs as the SB6183. The cm500 has also been thoroughly tested by TWC and Comcast and is actually the recommended modem for their top tier HSI packages; which are double the speed of the ultimate tier available to us in this market. I am just partial to Netgear and prefer to run equipment produced by the same manufacturers. If you want a 16x4 standalone modem, the only option is the SB6183. It will be interesting to see which devices make it to the approved list once "Gigablast" finally rolls out.

More modems are being added going forward though there is nothing specific to the CM 500 currently, as more updates to speeds are done more 16 channel modems will be added we appreciate the feedback and will share it with our administrators that test the modems.
