Which dB connection on splitter for cable modem
When the cox technician hooked up my DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem, phone modem, and TV a year or so ago, he installed a three way splitter. I recently unhooked everything. When I went to hook it back up, I noticed that two of the splitter outputs are labelled 5 dB and one is 7 dB. Which decible rated output goes to the cable modem?

Those numbers are to show you how much of a loss is on each output. Typical rule is to put the modem on the least amount of loss but it truly depends on your signal levels coming into the splitter. If you reconnect all the equipment and have problems with the service, we will probably need to schedule a technician to come out. If you do need to schedule a trouble call, please email me the account details and a link to this forum to cox.help@cox.com.

Best guess: 7dB to your TV. One 5dB to the cable modem, and the remaining 5dB to the phone modem.

Just as a general tip, you may see if its possible to upgrade your phone modem to DOCSIS 3.0 so you can go from a 3way to a 2way splitter. Then again if it ain't broken...
