When (if ever) is Cox going to offer a decent email service?
It is ironic that the only email account that I actually pay for (Cox) is the most technologically backward (POP3 only? No IMAP? In 2012, really?) and unreliable. It doesn't appear that Cox has made ANY upgrades or improvements to its email service in the 5+ years I have been using it. And it is the LEAST reliable email service I have ever experienced, both in the frequency and the duration of service interruptions.
We are always warned against relying on free email services as our primary email account. But gmail, iCloud, even Yahoo (which isn't so great) have proven to be far more consistently reliable, current and up-to-date than my paid, Cox service.

All services suffer from breakdowns from time to time. Cox is one of the few who won't give out any information as to why there is a breakdown, what is broken and when they anticipate it being fixed. All I can get is 'We are aware of the problem and are attempting to fix it' and that it should be operational sometime tonight. That is a pretty large window. Several years ago when Cox was the only game in town they got away with this type of service all the time, but they have competition today. I have heard that Verizon's service is worse but I don't really see how it could be.

I have multiple devices, so I have to set them all to leave messages on the server. Then I have to use COX webmail to cleanup old emails. I used to use the "enhanced email", but it hasn't worked in the past few months.
Everyone who uses multiple devices for email should switch to Yahoo mail or GMail, or iCloud as mjgolden suggested. Both services are free, provide more storage than COX, faster service than COX, Secure IMAP support, server based email filters. This is the year 2007...or years later... people are using more than one computer/device, IMAP really should be provided by now.

I personally prefer not to have my email hosted with my ISP, that way if I move or change my ISP's, and I do not have to worry about losing anything. I am not disagreeing with your assessment, just offering a different perspective.
If your looking for a way to use IMAP, you can integrate your Cox (POP3) into your Gmail account, and then you can create folders which will be on the Gmail server letting you sync them using IMAP. Instructions here.
